Clay prairie along the Guadalupe
Victoria County covers about 887 square miles of the Coastal Plain, and the city of Victoria is both its seat and its largest community. Most of it is nearly level to gently rolling prairie with dark clay loams and clays. The Guadalupe and San Antonio rivers and Coleto Creek drain the southwest, while Garcitas, Arenosa and Placedo creeks carry water toward Lavaca Bay.[1]
Heavy clay holds water, and a field can stay too soft for equipment well after a rain. An aircraft is not held up by that, so aerial application keeps work moving on this kind of ground.
