Tom Green County spans about 1,540 square miles of west central Texas, taking in part of the Osage Plains and part of the Edwards Plateau, with the Concho River as its principal stream. San Angelo is the seat of the county and its only major city, and the 2020 Census counted 120,003 residents in the county as a whole. Farmland here is mostly pasture, about 708,815 acres of the 937,713 acres on its 1,392 farms in the 2022 USDA county profile.[1,2,3]
With the plains in cropland and the plateau in ranchland, one county can hold very different jobs for an aircraft. Fields of wheat or cotton call for even coverage, rough rangeland calls for reach, and the lakes around town raise their own questions about mosquitoes.

The legislature created Tom Green County on March 13, 1874, and voters organized it in an election held January 5, 1875.[1]
San Angelo became the county seat after a flood in 1882 destroyed the earlier seat, Ben Ficklin.[1]
O. C. Fisher Lake, Twin Buttes Reservoir and Lake Nasworthy are the county's reservoirs.[1]
Three quarters of county farm sales came from livestock and livestock products in the 2022 USDA profile, and wheat for grain topped the crop acreage list.[3]
