Limestone County is part of the Blackland Prairies and sits on the divide between the Brazos and Trinity river basins. The Navasota River and its tributaries drain it, and the lakes include Lake Mexia, Springfield Lake and Lake Limestone. Groesbeck is the county seat, and Mexia is the largest city.[1,2]
Pastureland that runs up to a lake shore or a creek bottom is a poor match for heavy equipment, and the soils change from one part of the county to another. Flying the work lets a pilot follow the shape of the tract instead of the shape of the roads.

Limestone County was formed on April 11, 1846, from Robertson County.[1]
In 2020, Limestone County had 22,146 residents, with Mexia at 6,893 and Groesbeck at 3,631.[1]
Its land area is 905.3 square miles out of 933.2 total, per the Texas Almanac.[3]
The county's elevation ranges from 375 to 665 feet above sea level.[1]
Fort Parker lies near the Navasota River in the central part of the county.[2]
